The Cook Off

If that three-legged, black cast iron Dutch Oven could talk, what stories it would tell! With a unique history all its own, the Dutch Oven sailed over from England and proudly took its place in the colonization of America. Bumping along the side of Conestoga wagons, it was an integral part of everyday living during the Western migration. Some felt their Dutch Oven important enough to include in their wills. The saga continues today with many enthusiastic kitchen cooks to those who cook around the campfire, still producing the best tasting food around.

In fall, the history-rich community of Georgetown, Colorado is set to host it's 4th Annual COOK-OFF. This year's event is santioned with the International Dutch Oven Society.  The winner of this event will receive  cash prize and have a chance to enter to win the World Championships and win the $5,000 grand prize!
Starting at 7am entrants will start setting up their space in downtown Georgetown amongst the historic storefronts and tree-lined streets. Preparation and cooking begins at 9am.

The three categories - Miner's Stew, High Country Bread, and Rocky Mountain Cobbler - will be judged continually until the final tasting and awards ceremony ends at 3:30pm. Free musical entertainment sets the mood as you wander among the COOK-OFF booths. Gather around the fire pit in Strousse Park, listen to storytellers and let yourself get lost in days and days long ago. While in the park, enjoy great local microbrews and bratwurst.

After judging, taste the competitors marvelous creations, then fill out your vote for "People's Choice" Award!
